Commercial Charter Boat Photography Algarve.
Phaze Photography took to the water a few days ago for a commercial shoot for a newly established luxury charter boat company in Lagos, Algarve called Karma Boat Cruises. Our brief over a number of sessions is to capture the interior & exterior of this luxurious boat & to photograph clients on board & to also capture it at work along the beautiful coastline. This session was to photograph a family enjoying themselves on board the vessel.
We met the owner & operator of Karma Boat Cruises, Khaled Mahmoud & his wife Jill at Lagos Marina where the boat is berthed. The boat in question, called Karma, is a beautiful 41 foot Cranchi Endurance powered by two Volvo Penta engines putting out a healthy 700bhp.
We met the lovely family who were to be our models for the afternoon & skipper Martin & headed out from Lagos Marina. As we made our way to the harbour entrance we could see the waves had built & a strong wind blowing in. Past the harbour it was anything but a calm day & we made our way to the Point de Piedade to see if we could get some shelter for shooting. It was not to be so the engines were opened up & it was a quick journey to the lagoon at Alvor and sheltered waters.
Once moored. Jill provided all the food & drinks, including champagne to our models for the session. The champagne certainly helped the adults relax and the melon pirate boats won the children over.
With wider angle lenses & using off camera flash for more flexibility with lighting, we utilized every area of the boat to show it off to its full potential. Karma has a spacious deck area for a family of five to enjoy themselves, add to that though two photographers & equipment, the use of wide angle lenses is a must. We used Sony A7RII & Zeiss 24-70mm lens with an AD360 off camera flash and trigger.
Karma Boat Cruises very own Khaled made an excellent model too as he appears in several images.
We made use of the sun bathing area at the stern & on the bow of the boat, photographing the family & also as a couple enjoying a romantic glass of Champagne.
Finally it was time to take to the water in Karma's very own small inflatable tender boat. Its hidden underneath the rear deck sun bathing area which lifts up. Shots of the stern of the boat with the name were required so there is no better way to do it than get on the water.
Time was up so it was a short and slightly bumpy ride back to Lagos Marina. We took the opportunity to take some images of Karma heading towards Lagos & into the harbour. Once the boat was berthed & cleared we also captured more of the beautiful deck & cockpit.
More sessions are planned to capture Karma. We have an evening session planned with in water photography included using our professional Sony camera in a Nauticam housing & dome port. We also have drone video & photography sessions in the future using our DJI Phantom 4 Pro. We are all just waiting for the conditions to be just right.
